“Painting Buoys in the Sun”
This piece was born from a moment of rest within a working day.
Inspired by my mural at the Basin Head Museum on Prince Edward Island, it’s based on one of the Court brothers from Rustico — a familiar figure of the wharf and a quiet symbol of island life.
He pauses mid-task, brush in hand, lobster buoy catching the sunlight. Coiled rope, weathered boards, and a simple shed frame the scene — honest details shaped by years of work.
What stayed with me was his ease. The twinkle in his eye. The calm dignity of a man comfortable in his place and purpose.
This painting is a tribute to the rhythm of the wharf — where hard work and stillness live side by side, and time moves just a little slower.
